The eight areas
Asset and network inventory
Every IP address, device, operating system, role, network device and Wi-Fi network, using Nmap and PowerShell.
Active Directory and server health
Patch status, Hyper-V, services, local admins, shares, group policy, password policy and legacy protocols.
Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tenant
MFA, conditional access, Secure Score, external sharing, mail hygiene (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), logging and retention.
Endpoints
Encryption (BitLocker), antivirus status, local admin rights, USB use and updates.
External exposure
Open ports, public services, DNS and certificates, with an external Greenbone Community Edition scan.
Backup and recovery
What is backed up and where, whether there is evidence of a test restore, and whether the 3-2-1 rule is met.
Licensing and lifecycle
End of support for operating systems, Office and servers, licence compliance and hardware age.
Process interview
One hour with the owner or office manager on access management, leavers, incidents and vendor dependency, mapped to the 56 safeguards of CIS Controls v8 IG1.
What you receive
The report typically runs to 12–20 pages plus appendices, written so that any other provider, or your group IT team, can work from it.
- A one-page management summary with a risk score.
- Findings by severity (critical, high, medium, low), each with evidence, impact, recommendation and estimated effort.
- An asset inventory in Excel, owned by you.
- A 12-month roadmap with cost estimates.
- An access register of who can reach what and how: the core of the handover documentation.

Day 0
Order, and handover of the read-only accounts you create.
Day 1
Automated data collection that runs unattended, plus a one-hour interview with the owner or office manager.
Days 2–3
On-site checks of about three hours, from the server room to the workstations.
Days 4–7
Analysis, the written report and a one-hour handover meeting. The report is delivered by business day 10 at the latest.
Tools and trust
We only use open-source or Microsoft-native tools, so no vendor account is needed and no agent is installed on your machines. Tool versions are fixed and listed in the quote.
- Microsoft 365 and Entra: Maester, with read-only Graph permissions.
- Windows, AD and endpoints: PowerShell and AD cmdlets, with nothing installed.
- Network and external scan: Nmap and Greenbone Community Edition.
- Google Workspace: GAM, read-only configuration export.
- The read-only accounts you create are deleted after the audit.
- The raw scan data stays with you or on our encrypted device, and the report is produced from anonymised findings.
Credit against a managed IT contract
If you sign a 12-month managed IT contract after the audit, one twelfth of the audit fee is credited against each monthly invoice, so the full fee comes back over the year. On early exit the remaining credit stops; there is no separate exit fee.

Do you install anything on our machines?
No. Data is collected with PowerShell, Nmap and Greenbone Community Edition from our own laptop or a temporary VM, using read-only accounts; nothing is installed on your machines. You create the accounts, and we delete them after the audit.
Who owns the report and the inventory?
You do, from day one. The asset inventory and access register are written so that any other provider or your group IT team can work from them.
What if we do not continue with you afterwards?
You keep the report and documentation with no further obligation. The monthly audit credit only applies with a 12-month managed IT contract.
